Ever wonder how Real Madrid allocates its limited away ticket quota? From the socios' draw to peña requests, here is how away tickets work for Madridistas.
Behind the White Wall: How Real Madrid Distributes Away Tickets
Getting a ticket in the away end for a Real Madrid match is one of the hardest things in football. Whether it's a derby at the Metropolitano or a Champions League night across Europe, demand from Madridistas is almost always bigger than the allocation.
1. How Many Tickets Does Real Madrid Receive?
• UEFA Champions League: UEFA rules require the host club to make at least 5% of the stadium's capacity available to visiting supporters. There are exceptions, for example when local police advise a smaller number.
• LaLiga & domestic cups: the size depends on the host club and its stadium.
2. Who Gets the Tickets?
Socios come first. Socios (fee-paying club members with voting rights) apply through the club. For big games demand is so high that Real Madrid holds a draw before a notary (sorteo ante notario). For the 2024 Champions League final, Real Madrid gave 18,982 tickets to socios by draw, 200 to its longest-serving members, 1,000 to peñas in Spain and abroad, and 4,206 (17.1%) to club departments and sponsors.
Official peñas can request tickets, but nothing is guaranteed. Officially recognised peñas request tickets through the club's Departamento de Peñas. There is no fixed quota: Real Madrid states that it cannot guarantee tickets for peñas at every match or reserve space for them at away games, and that it tries to help within the tickets available. When socio demand is high, peñas can get none. In our experience that happened for Atlético away in the 2025 Champions League and for the 2025 Copa del Rey final.
3. Named Tickets, Collected in Person
In our experience as an official peña:
• Away tickets go only to holders of the Real Madrid Carné de Peñista who are registered with the peña, and are requested at least 20 days before the match.
• Every ticket is in the holder's name (entradas nominativas): the club asks for each fan's full name, date of birth and ID or passport number.
• Tickets are handed over in the host city, in person, on showing an original ID card or passport. Photos are not accepted, and nobody can collect a ticket for someone else.
• Reselling is strictly forbidden. A peña involved in reselling can be expelled for good.
Can General Fans Buy Away Section Tickets?
In our experience, no. Tickets for Real Madrid's away section never go on public sale, and you won't find them on the club's ticket site.
If you want to see Real Madrid play away, your options are:
Becoming a socio.
Joining an officially recognised Peña Madridista. Allocations are limited and never guaranteed.
Buying a home or neutral-end ticket from the host club's official website, and following its dress rules.
