Mbappé's 100th Madrid goal wins the Clásico at the Camp Nou

Kylian Mbappé scored twice, including his 100th Real Madrid goal, as Mourinho's side won 2-1 at the Camp Nou with Lunin in fine form.

What a night to be a Madridista. Real Madrid went to the Camp Nou and came away with a 2-1 win over Barcelona, ending their perfect start to the league season. Kylian Mbappé scored both goals, and the second was his 100th for the club. The gap to Barcelona at the top is now three points.

How the win came

Mbappé opened the scoring, and Raphinha later brought Barcelona level. With three minutes left, Jude Bellingham produced a lovely piece of skill to start a counter. He found Eduardo Camavinga, who broke clear and cut the ball back, and Mbappé arrived unmarked to finish in the 87th minute. Those were his seventh and eighth goals against Barcelona. Managing Madrid notes that the result gives Real Madrid 107 wins in this fixture against 106 for Barcelona.

Mourinho's starting XI was Lunin; Valverde, Konaté, Huijsen, Cucurella; Tchouaméni, Bernardo; Güler, Bellingham, Diomande; Mbappé. Tchouaméni led the defensive work with 21 defensive actions and completed almost 96% of his passes. Vinícius Júnior missed the match because he is suspended. He was banned for four games after his red card against Villarreal, and this was the second of them.

Lunin steps up again

Thibaut Courtois was ruled out at the last minute through illness, and on the day of the match there were reports that he might still try to play. In the end Andriy Lunin started, and he was superb. He made five saves, including a remarkable stop from a Gerard Martín header. Managing Madrid gave him a 9 in its ratings. Lunin has now won four of his five Clásicos, and Barcelona are the opponent he has faced most often in white. He stayed modest afterwards, saying the team still has plenty to improve and that discipline, attitude and determination made the difference.

Mbappé and Mourinho speak

Mbappé called it a team victory. He said the group knew they had to put in a strong performance and that the team, not him, was the protagonist. Mourinho, at the Camp Nou as Madrid coach for the first time in thirteen years, praised his players: a great match, a great victory, and the boys deserved it. He added that the group is strong and very united, even in the hardest moments, and that he won't let anyone get carried away. Iker Casillas also praised Mourinho on social media after the final whistle.

Worry over Valverde

Fede Valverde felt discomfort from the first half but played on until the hour mark. He walked off on his own, clearly frustrated. Marca reports that he has muscular discomfort and will have tests tomorrow. Before he went off he had a fine game, and Managing Madrid rated him 8.5. Speaking after the match, the captain said the victory gives the squad an incredible boost to keep growing.

Ballon d'Or night in London

Mbappé is on the list of nominees for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, and the ceremony takes place in London on Monday. Arda Schröder is in the running for the Best Young Player award. He has also been named the Mahou Five Star Player for September.

Off the pitch

  • Mahou, the club's oldest sponsor, has renewed its deal until 2033. The partnership goes back to the 1940s, more than 80 years.
  • Tickets are on sale for the upcoming matches against PSG, Paris FC and Inter.
  • The Bernabéu paid tribute to the U-20 World Cup and U-19 European Championship winners.

Basketball

Pedro Martínez's side made ACB history by scoring 24 three-pointers in a game, and the coach praised his players for the very good job they are doing. Next up is a EuroLeague trip to Baskonia tomorrow.

A proud night for all of us at Peña Madridista Bangladesh. Let's hope Fede's tests come back clean. Hala Madrid!
